Mold actually feeds on the paint and finishes, therefore, removing them. Crevices are especially susceptible to the accumulation of dirt, algae and grime. While mildew and mold thrive in shaded areas and can grow if unchecked for years and not properly taken care of. So for those that have not had their home washed ever or in years and then decide to get it done, don't be surprised when the paint comes off too. I know all credible companies such as ourselves, try to be very gentle in the cleaning process to prevent any removal of paint and finishes. However, if the mold has been there for too long then the paint or finish may be too far gone to save. This being one of the main reasons it is very important to maintain a routine exterior home cleaning. 

If you do let this go and keep putting it off, then the inevitable will happen and will ultimately cost you more because you will then need to not only have your home cleaned, but you will also have to have your house repainted/ refinished.
